Located on the exclusive Hibiscus Island, the 8,000-square-foot residence was designed with uninterrupted views of Biscayne Bay and ample amounts of South Florida sunshine in mind. Wide terraces, indoor/outdoor spaces, and a sumptuous pool with hot tub celebrate nature while cutting-edge technology enhances every square inch of living space.

The home is a balance of light and dark, of soaring, airy rooms and dramatic spaces in a tropical-modern design. Sunshine cascades through fifty feet of double-height, continuous pool and waterfront windows in the living and dining areas, and fifty feet of sliding glass doors that access the pool deck. Glass railings along the stone staircase and flanking the catwalk to the primary bedroom suite allow natural light to flow through the space. Double-height walls and a fireplace, both outfitted in elegant black marble and brushed black metal finishes, provide a stunning contrast.

So much glass and sunlight require a special level of detailing regarding shades in order for them to function flawlessly while integrating seamlessly into the home’s design. Lutron Palladiom Roller Shades were selected to accomplish this feat, with bracket and hembar designed in Black Anodized and a seven-panel Lutron Homeworks QS lighting system with Snow White Palladiom keypads.

Automated ambient time clocks and voice automation allow for fluid control. A third party home-control platform allows for a unified, tailored app interface to the AV, Access Control and Lutron functions. A simple tap on a screen runs an “Entertainment” scene in the living room; the shades lower and lights dim to focus attention on the ultrathin LG screen mounted to the custom stone wall.

The glass-enclosed primary suite’s bathroom is treated with dynamic layers of shading to reveal sweeping views from the quartz soaking tub. With a voice command spoken from inside the bath, shades drop for privacy or open up for the view. In the striking skull-themed bar and home theater, dramatic Lutron motorized blackout curtains enclose the space for a cinematic experience. Glass shelving, emerald-colored fabric, and gold details richly accent the bar itself, which resembles a massive geode illuminated from within.

Rounding out the design is a Lutron ecosystem and DMX lighting, blending blown-glass fixtures with sophisticated, architectural LED technology. The result is a bespoke residence formed of luminous glass and luxurious stone, both modern and entirely unique, an expression of light.
