I woke up with the overwhelming feeling, not unfamiliar to most people today—I need to get out of the house. Fortunately, I have an option; one that is unencumbered by masks and 6-foot markers. It is my home away from home, where everything is accommodated to the same preferences I wake up with every day, except ocean waves are far more realistic than any sound machine I could hope for.

I decided to escape to—you guessed it—my boat. Due to the importance of social distancing, we decided to limit the excursion to only my husband and myself.

Our smart vessel has learned we are both fans of the sea breeze, so it ensures we never really experience the A/C in a harsh or inorganic fashion. We are also environmentally conscious, having a cooling system that has a green mode really lessens our concerns about consuming too much energy.

Entertainment on-board is instrumental to our escape. Typically, I prefer to lounge on the top deck and read a novel, with nothing more than the water to serenade me. My husband, however, relaxes more to the likes of Lauryn Hill and Chaka Khan while tanning on deck. With our multi-room audio system, our preferences never interfere with one another. I can layout while he rocks out, and none of us is the wiser.

Later in the night, we like to stay in and watch old films, but as you can tell, we’re fairly minimal people. For us, the most elegant television is the one that doesn’t disrupt your living space. In crafting our entertainment room, we decided the technology at Future Automation was best suited to our needs. Our TV unfolds and re-packs itself into the boat ceiling; our speakers are craftily tucked into the wall, and we love it because we only see it when we want to.

Our security system makes it so we don’t have to worry aboard or ashore and its seamless design ensures we don’t run into any gauche machinery or wonky cameras on our vessel. Something as seemingly trivial as an A/C issue and our system lets us know immediately, providing us peace of mind regardless of where we are.

We spent the day at sea as we usually do, enjoying one another’s presence without having to exchange many words. He vibed to his music as usual and I completed Murakami’s 1Q84 on the Kindle. I thought I would have already finished my book given all the time I’ve been at home, but perhaps I just needed some sunshine, salty air, and silence. Oh, and the occasional Donna Summer disco moment with my husband to really zone out and zero in.

Having the consciousness that we are in communication and control of our vessel and home, allows us to simply let go, which is—truly invaluable.
