The Apple WWDC 2018 rolled out some exciting announcements in the way of smart-home systems. The new relationship between Siri, Apple and whole-home automated technology is an exciting new frontier for the industry. Before this update, Siri was only available in the Apple Ecosystem, but now you will be able to control 3rd party automation systems like Savant and Crestron. This innovative advancement makes it possible to control products like Apple TV, Nest thermostat, Lutron lighting scenes and Séura TV Mirror, with a simple, “Hey, Siri.”

Aaron Flint, founder of Acoustic Architects, gave us his take on the news, “This is the best of both worlds! It will enhance the user experience by giving the perfect balance of an easy to use single remote control and at the same time, native integration with Siri.”

Your Savant home automation app controls the “Responsive Living” features of your home. Think lights, music, temperature control, security and network safety. Siri can interface with your Savant or Crestron home system, as well as control media choices on your television through Apple TV.

John Clancy, VP of Residential at Crestron, said, “An overwhelming percentage of our residential customers use Apple products as part of their home technology ecosystems, and delivering a seamless integration between Crestron and Apple solutions will absolutely enhance the homeowner’s user experience.”

Picture the way this will change your Apple TV experience…

At the end of your day, you recline in your home theater room, snacking on a cheese board, steadying a glass of Sav Blanc. With a few voice commands you create the perfect mood for your space. Before you start the Apple TV viewing for the evening, you have a few tasks for your friends, Siri and Savant.

“Siri, activate Welcome Scene.”

“Siri, close shades.”

“Turn lighting scene to sunset.”

“Turn off music.”

Now for the entertainment…

“Siri, what are the new Independent films released in 2018?” The options populate on your screen. You choose Yves Saint Laurent, but want to skip past the previews. “Siri, fast forward 15 minutes.”

Siri can find a movie by your favorite actor, sort by genre, turn on subtitles, adjust the volume, and pause the movie when you need a refill on refreshments. If your home theater room gets a little chilly during the show, just tell Siri to make an adjustment to the thermostat. You can even command Savant to lock the doors and set the security system for the evening.

With the new integration of Siri into your smart-home system apps, hands-free voice-controlled “Responsive Living,” just got a lot more attractive.
